I have recently been involved in a research project exploring the training and professional development of English teachers in South Korea. The findings reveal that although a number of native English-speaking teachers actively pursue professional development opportunities, many others fail to do so. This finding is not unexpected, and suggests that more training is needed for NESTs in Korea. The paper concludes with some suggestions as to how professional development for EFL/ESL teachers in South Korea could be improved.
